An Example Worth Following

Radiant Life Church · Festus, Missouri

$2Mraised for missions by one congregation over 25 years

This past weekend I was in Festus, Missouri, with two of my favorite people in the world, Pastors Randy and Joyce Gray, as Radiant Life Church celebrated the 25th year of its annual missions convention.

For a quarter of a century, this congregation has set aside the third weekend of September with a single purpose: put the mission of God in front of their people and give them a way to respond. And respond they have. Over 25 years, this one church has raised $2 million for missions.

But the money is only part of the story. Year after year, they have sent teams to serve Native American ministries, restoring churches with their own hands and bringing both labor and materials. They did not just write checks. They showed up with hammers, paintbrushes, and servant hearts. Church buildings that were falling apart now stand as houses of worship again.

What intentional leadership produces

Randy did not stumble into a missions culture. He built one on purpose—one September weekend at a time, one missions team at a time, one budget line defended at a time. Vision leaks, and he refused to let it leak. He kept the mission in front of his people until giving and going became part of the church’s DNA.

Behind Randy and Joyce stands a tremendous leadership team: people who caught the vision and now carry it as their own. That is the other mark of great leadership. It multiplies.

What would intentional look like in your church?

Not a bigger event, but a deeper commitment. Not a one-time emphasis, but a continual rhythm your people can count on and build their lives around. Your church can do it—and together, it becomes powerful.

Two million dollars. Countless churches restored. One pastor who decided missions would never be an afterthought. That’s what intentional leadership produces. What will yours produce?
